PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing variable mechanism of an internal combustion engine which can prevent a clearance between a lock pin and a hole from being outside a proper range.SOLUTION: When a rotor 3 is positioned in an intermediate lock position and lock pins of lock mechanisms 16A and 16B are completely inserted into holes, a biasing force F1 of a spring which biases the rotor 3 in the circumferential direction acts to an engagement position for a housing 4 in the spring, as well as a reaction force F2 of the biasing force F1 acts to the lock pins and the holes. Furthermore, a resultant force F3 of the biasing force F1 and the reaction force F2 acts to the rotor 3 in the radial direction. The action direction of the resultant force F3 at this time is a direction where an inclination angle &thetas; to a straight line L1 perpendicular to the center line of the first lock mechanism 16A and the center line of the second lock mechanism 16B becomes a small value less than a preset value. The engagement position for the housing 4 in the spring is therefore set so that the inclination angle &thetas; becomes the small value less than the preset value. |
