[Class 74 (ii)] Pattern mechanism.-A cylinder or dial rib machine or a plain circular machine fitted with pattern mechanism 3 is also provided with an auxiliary pattern mechanism 13, preferably of the same kind as the mechanism 3, which can be thrown into action when required, the action of the main pattern mechanism being then suppressed. As shown, the mechanisms are cylinders carrying pins which act through banks of levers 4, 50 on pivoted bits 2 which are mounted in an obliquely disposed cylinder 1 and select the needles, jacks, &c. As shown, the auxiliary mechanism is for producing rib work and has only a small bank of levers 50 at a higher level than the bank 4. Both cylinders 3, 13 are racked round by a cam 44 on the bevel drive 9 of the needle cylinder and by rock levers 11, 29. The cam operated lever 42 is loose on the rock-shaft 39 but can be connected thereto by a pattern controlled bolt 43<1> and then operates the cylinder 13 through the lever 27 and a ratchet lever 21a. The cylinder 13 comes to rest when none of its pattern pins engage the levers 50. When the cylinder 13 is in operation a lever 51 with a cam end 51a resets all the bits 2 selected by the main pattern cylinder 3.
