A method and system are provided for processing a printing document containing a predefined order of document pages with at least one predefined print mode. The method comprises evaluating first printing conditions for printing a print job comprising printing pages with at least one print mode, generating a print job containing the printing pages and evaluating at least second printing conditions for printing the print job comprising printing pages in at least one alternative print mode. The method further comprises determining whether the printing of the print job according to the first or at least second printing conditions fulfils a predefined parameter, and routing the print job to a printer for printing the print job with the appropriate print mode based on the appropriate printing conditions which fulfil the predefined parameter. The printing conditions may be compared regarding print times (i.e. printing speed) and/or energy consumption and/or consumables of the printing device. |
