Parking assistance is provided to a driver using a system capturing images of objects adjacent a first vehicle 100 to be parked, typically using bumper-mounted cameras 202, 204, 206, 208, 210, 212, 214, 216, for example a second vehicle, determining distances between first vehicle 100 and objects adjacent first vehicle 100, most typically using ultrasonic distance sensors 218, 220, 222, 224, 226, 228, 230, 232 coupled to the cameras, creating a three-dimensional map of objects adjacent first vehicle 100, overlaying the captured images onto the three-dimensional map, and creating a virtual three-dimensional representation of the objects. The resulting representation typically shifts the perspective of images obtained from the cameras, may typically be rotated in real-time, and may include a three-dimensional model of first vehicle 100. The distance sensors preferably determine distances less than 9.144 metres, and more preferably less than 0.9144 metres to 3.048 metres. |
