PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can obtain image data in an appropriate range.SOLUTION: In an image reader including a platen glass 36 on which a document is placed and a reading unit for reading the document while moving in a sub-scanning direction, it is determined whether an image is present in a first region 62 which is set in a position exceeding a length of a short side of the document from a reference position in a main scanning direction. When the image is determined to be present in the first region, image data in a reading range, in which the sub-scanning direction corresponds to the length of the short side of the document and the main scanning direction corresponds to the length of a long side of the document, is outputted. When it is checked that the document is placed on a placing face in a vertical posture, the image data in the reading range in which the document in the vertical posture is set as an object can be outputted. When the document is placed on the placing face in the vertical posture, the image data in an appropriate range can be obtained. |
