An induction machine comprises a stator 1 and a rotor 4 arranged to rotate in operation with respect to the stator. The stator comprises a plurality of stator teeth 2 and a plurality of stator teeth windings 6 (one phase shown) arranged to surround individual stator teeth. The rotor comprises a plurality of rotor teeth 5 and a plurality of rotor teeth windings 6 (one phase shown, wherein the rotor teeth windings are arranged to surround individual rotor teeth, the phase number of the rotor being different from the phase number of the stator e.g. three stator phases and five rotor phases. The rotor is arranged in operation to rotate asynchronously with respect to the fundamental harmonic of the magnetic field of the stator teeth windings. The voltage induced in the rotor windings by the fundamental harmonic of the magnetic field of the stator windings..is an alternating voltage which produces the alternating current responsible for torque production in the rotational direction corresponding to the direction of rotation of the rotor of the induction machine. |
