467,068. Mercury and other conducting liquid switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 16, 1936, No. 31312. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1935. [Class 38 (v)] A mercury switch comprising two metal end caps separated by an insulating diaphragm with a hole through which mercury passes in the " on " position, is rotatably mounted in a housing between two contacts 35 which have projecting portions engaging depressions in the caps and serve to conduct the current to the caps. Spring strips 45 press on the switch causing good contact between the contacts 35 and the caps. They also engage depressions to determine the " on " and " off positions of the switch which is operated by a handle 40. The strips 45 and contacts 35 are connected to hollow rivets 49 and in assembling the rivets 49 are placed over inserts 50 the projecting ends of which are then spun over. The switch is shown combined with another similar switch which it drives through gearing, the complete arrangement functioning as a double pole or a two-way switch. Four switches may also be combined together to form a reversing switch operated by one handle, Figs. 12-15 (not shown). Specification 466,258 is referred to.
|
