[Class 78 (iv)] A one-piece lifting-sling comprises a flat braided wire main portion 10 with integral unbraided portions forming eyes 11 at the ends. The eyes are wrapped with successive layers of burlap 16, friction tape 17 and wire 18. To make the sling, the cable is wound round two posts 13 and its ends spliced together. The strands at one end of the series of loops thus formed are then brought together and tied to form one eye. The remaining portions of the loops are then braided until just.sufficient unbraided material is left to form the last eye by tieing as in the first case. The eyes are finished subsequently in the manner described above.</p> |
