a temperature detector that detects a temperature in the projector; a filter that converts a spectral characteristic of the light emitted from the light source; a switcher that switches the state of the filter between in use and not in use; and a controller that determines an amount of overdrive to be performed on the liquid crystal panel and performs overdrive control on the liquid crystal display panel based on the amount of overdrive, wherein the controller determines the amount of overdrive to be performed on the liquid crystal panel based on both the temperature detected by the temperature detector and the state of the filter.
