A method of preparing DNA for long-term storage, particularly at room temperature. DNA is purified by using a purifying agent to bind a DNA sample to a binding matrix such as silica beads. The bound DNA sample is washed at least once with a working wash buffer and an alcohol wash. The bound sample is combined with a binding agent and additional binding matrix to more strongly bind the DNA sample to the binding matrix. This further bound DNA sample is mixed with a drying agent and is air dried. The dried, bound DNA samples are sealed in an airtight container with a non-reactive gas such as nitrogen and stored to avoid exposure to ultraviolet light. |
