The method involves calculating a required target flow of a fuel using a pump model of a pump (310) through a metering unit (308). A cross section of an opening of a combustion engine is calculated. Inlet pressure and rail pressure of the fuel in a fuel injection system (302) are provided with the pump model at the pump. Rotation speed of the combustion engine is provided with the pump model. The target flow is determined by the metering unit to adjust a rail pressure controller of the fuel injection system. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for operating of a fuel injection system of a combustion engine to provide fuel.
