The present invention relates to a dye compound represented by the following [Chemical Formula I] or [Chemical Formula II], wherein the dye compound according to the present invention has a quantum efficiency that is significantly improved over a typical cyanine compound and exhibits strong fluorescence, thereby being usefully applicable in a broad range of fields such as a probe for various biological systems which require an optical image. In particular, the dye compound can be applied as a mitotracker which can label mitochondria for tracking, so that mitochondria can be quantitatively imaged in the body or cell tissue. In addition, the dye compound may be applied as a pH probe which checks the pH of living cells.
