457,266. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. July 23, 1936, No. 20442. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] A vapour - filled discharge tube is surrounded by an exhausted envelope and comprises at least two parallel tube portions, the tube being supported from the envelope by means of a resilient member which holds the tube at at least one point of those sides of the tube portions which face one another. In the form shown, a U-shaped tube 1 is enclosed in an evacuated envelope 6 which is provided with an internal screen 8. The tube is supported from this screen by a helical spring 9 which is held in the constricted bend of the tube, with interposition of a mica strip 10. To ensure a tight grip by the spring 9, this is made slightly longer than required, so that it is compressed when in position ; or the spring may be twisted during insertion. A glass bead may also be used to secure the spring to the tube. More than one resilient support may be used, for example a second helical spring may be inserted between the ends of the tube. Tubes with three or four limbs may be supported similarly. A filling of neon, at 10 mms. pressure, and sodium is employed. |
