This vehicle control apparatus is provided with: a detecting unit which detects a surrounding vehicle traveling in the surroundings of a host vehicle; an estimating unit which estimates a positional change of the surrounding vehicle detected by the detecting unit; and a period deriving unit which derives, on the basis of the positional change of the surrounding vehicle estimated by the estimating unit, a lane changeable period during which a lane change can be performed to a lane change target position that is set as a position relative to the surrounding vehicle traveling in an adjacent lane that is adjacent to a lane in which the host vehicle is traveling. |
