The invention relates to a method and device for the adaptive quantisation of camera images (KB) produced by a camera (1) provided with a lens (2), wherein the image video data, generated by the camera (1), of the camera images (KB) have image data blocks (BB) that each undergo a discrete cosine transformation (DCT) to calculate DCT coefficients which are divided and then rounded by a quantisation matrix (QM) for the quantisation thereof, said quantisation matrix (QM) used for the quantisation of the DCT coefficients being adaptively adjusted to the lens (2) of the camera (1).
