A fin plug assembly 10 for removably mounting a removable watercraft fin on a 5 water-facing surface of a watercraft is disclosed. The fin plug assembly 10 includes a fin plug comprising a fin housing 12 configured to house and mount a mounting base of the watercraft fin. It also includes a mounting insert 14 having an insert body with operationally water-facing and inwardly facing surfaces. The mounting insert 14 has a cavity formed in the water-facing surface that is shaped 10 complementally to and configured to receive the fin housing 12. The water-facing surface of the mounting insert 14 is configured for co-operation with the water-facing surface of the watercraft. The mounting insert body 14 is configured for co-operation with, and mounting within, a cavity previously formed in the water-facing surface of the watercraft and the mounting insert has a laminar construction having laminar 15 sheets 14.1, and 14.3 laminated to a core 14.2. .W.
