A "linen" article, e.g. a collar, consists of an intermediate layer of linen or like fabric (e.g. calico) sandwiched between a pigmented cellulose derivative sheet (or a fabric impregnated with a cellulose derivative) and a transparent sheet of a mixed polymerizate made by the joint polymerization of vinyl chloride and one or more unsaturated monomerides capable of polymerization. The monomerides may be derivatives of aliphatic mono- or di-carboxylic acids, or styrene. The polymerizate may be made from (parts by weight): (1) vinyl chloride 80, acrylic acid methyl ester 20; (2) vinyl chloride 50-99, maleic acid butyl ester 50-1; (3) vinyl chloride 80, acrylic acid butyl ester 15, styrol 5; (4) vinyl chloride 70, methacrylic acid ester (methyl or butyl) 30. The pigmented cellulose derivative sheet may be made of (1) the usual camphor-celluloid, or (2) a celluloid made with a substantially odourless. gelatinizing agent, e.g. an ester of phthalic acid or of phosphoric acid, especially tributyl phosphate, or (3) cellulose acetate or (4) ethyl cellulose. The non-fabric components of the collar may be united to the linen under heat and pressure. |
