The invention relates to a marine fender 10 and a tracking system 20 used to track and monitor the location of pneumatic marine fenders. The fender comprises a tracking system and a power supply, preferably lithium ion batteries located within the fender. The tracking system is in radio frequency (RF) communication with an exterior of the fender, by way of an RF guide 16 extending from the interior of the fender to the exterior of the fender. The tracking system is preferably waterproof, dustproof and shock proof and may utilize GPS, satellite, GSM and GPRS technology. The fender may also comprise a pressure sensor able to detect a loss of pressure. A later embodiment relates to a method for tracking one or more of said fenders (62, 64 & 66 figure 3). The method comprises the steps of associating a fender with a tracking system, communicating with fenders via a communication system and determining the location of the or each fender using a global poisoning system. |
