479,613. Paper tubes. HAMPSHIRE & CO., Ltd., F. W., and HAMPSHIRE, F. W. Sept. 8, 1936, No. 24475. [Class 99 (ii)] [Also in Groups XVII and-XVI] The tubular bodies of boxes &c. are made by winding two or more layers of paper around a mandrel 6, applying casein between the layers as they are wrapped, and subjecting the layers to the action of a die-press 8 to press, heat, and emboss the sides of the tube thus formed. Paper from a roll 1 passes over a guide 2, under a guillotine 3, over a roller 4 dipping into a bath of casein, and on to a rotatable mandrel 6 on a turret 7. The roller 4 is reciprocated to and from the paper so that the layer in contact with the mandrel is not coated. At station I, the paper is wound on the mandrel, and at station II, two sides of the box are embossed, &c. and the mandrel is then rotated and the other two sides embossed. The tube may be lined or coated and sprayed with an artificial resin wax, lacquer, or nitro-cellulose, &c. |
