controlling a transmission system of a vehicle by positioning a disconnect clutch at its stroke point in response to a commanded engine shutdown; collecting engine deceleration rates and engine torque estimates in response to each of a plurality of commanded engine shutdowns; and deriving engine torque errors from the engine deceleration rates and the engine torque estimates collected during the plurality of commanded engine shutdowns.
