An imaging device comprises: a two-dimensional image sensor that includes a plurality of light receiving units capable of reading an output value individually according to a volume of received light thereof; a receiving unit that receives a control signal that specifies an operation mode of the two-dimensional image sensor that is predetermined according to a purpose of using the output value; and a sensor controller that sets, on the basis of the control signal received by the receiving unit, an imaging area representing an area of a light receiving unit that reads the output value from among the light receiving units of the two-dimensional image sensor and controls reading of the output value. |

1. An apparatus comprising:
an image sensor that includes a two-dimensional array of light receiving units each capable of reading an output value according to a volume of received light that is reflected from a subject; a motor that moves the subject and the image sensor relatively; a first controller that controls switching between a first mode having a first relative speed between the subject and the image sensor and a second mode having a second relative speed between the subject and the image sensor, the first relative speed being smaller than the second relative speed; a second controller that changes an area of the two-dimensional array of light receiving units actively reading so as to increase a number of active light receiving units in the first mode in comparison with a number of active light receiving units in the second mode; and a third controller that sets a relative speed between the subject and the image sensor based on which one of the first mode and the second mode is switched to active by the first controller. |
