Waste heat boiler (3) comprises a tubular bundle heat carrier placed in a pressure vessel. A displacement body (9) made from graphite is coaxially inserted into tubes (7) through which process gas passes. The displacement body extends over part of the length of the tube and forms an annular chamber (10) with the inner side of the tube.
