This electricity storage device is provided with: a negative electrode which is provided with a lamellar structure having an organic skeleton layer containing an aromatic compound that is a dicarboxylic acid anion having an aromatic ring structure and an alkali metal element layer that forms a skeleton by having an alkali metal element coordinated to an oxygen atom contained in a carboxylic acid anion; a positive electrode which expresses an electric double layer capacity; and a nonaqueous electrolyte solution which is interposed between the negative electrode and the positive electrode and contains an alkali metal salt. The lamellar structure may be formed into a layered configuration by means of π electron interaction of the aromatic compound and may have a monoclinic crystal structure belonging to the space group P21/c. The positive electrode may contain an activated carbon having a specific surface area of 1,000 m2/g or more.
