Provided are a method and device for realizing the fast-forward or fast-backward of a video stream. The method comprises: receiving a fast-forward or fast-backward request triggered by a user, and positioning a timestamp of a fast-forward or fast-backward requested position; acquiring a video meta data stream corresponding to a fast-forward or fast-backward requested section according to a timestamp of a currently played position and the timestamp of the fast-forward or fast-backward requested position; selecting a video frame to be played from the video meta data stream according to a playing ratio, and playing the video frame to be played. Neither remaining video frames in a current sequence group would be neglected, nor would influence arise from an I frame interface; consequently, the problem of lack of smoothness can be prevented, and the user experience can be improved. |
