A locking device (6) for an adjustable steering column (1) of a motor vehicle, with an actuating lever (9) which is attached to an inner region (8) of a clamping bolt (7) and interacts with a pressure plate (11) of a clamping mechanism in such a manner that, when the actuating lever (9) rotates about the clamping bolt axis (10) in the closing direction (15), a clamping force is produced in the direction of the clamping bolt axis (10) and, in the process, the steering column (1) is firmly clamped in the locking device (6), and, when the actuating lever (9) rotates in the opening direction (14), the clamping force is reduced, and therefore the clamping is released and the steering column (1) becomes freely adjustable, is improved in respect of a simply configured damping of the stops of the actuating lever (9), in order to avoid stop noises, by the pressure plate (11) having a stop finger (16) which is arranged at a radial distance from the clamping bolt (7), protrudes in the direction of the clamping bolt axis (10) and engages in a window-like recess (17) of the actuating lever (9) such that rotation of the actuating lever (9) is possible, but is limited both in the opening direction (14) and in the closing direction (15) by striking opposite stop surfaces (18, 19) of the window-like recess (17) on the stop finger (16), and that at least one of the stop surfaces (18, 19) has a damping covering (20, 21). |
