[Class 111] Means for distributing sludge or materials in digesters for treating sewage sludge or other waste materials comprises a centrifugallyacting element or wheel having a driving shaft provided with a tubular enclosure to protect the shaft from fibrous and other materials in the sludge. As shown, the cover 1 of a sewage sludge digester has an opening fitted with a supporting ring 2 adapted to receive a structure 3 provided with a distributer plate 7 connected to a motor 4. The driving shaft 6 is enclosed in a housing 10. The sludge is conveyed to the digester by a pipe leading tangentially to the structure, thence to a hopper 8 which is provided with a spiral vane 9 and is shaped to deliver the sludge centrally to the plate 7.</p> |
