A three-dimensional (3D) camera and a method for controlling the same are provided. In sensing RGB light and infrared (IR) light, the RGB light and the IR light are prevented from acting as optical noise to each other.

1. A three-dimensional (3D) camera comprising:
a light transmitting unit configured to transmit infrared (IR) light with a predetermined pattern; a light receiving unit configured to sense incoming light comprising red-green-blue (RGB) light and reflected IR light of the transmitted IR light, the light receiving unit comprising:
an outer lens configured to direct the incoming light to a reflective mirror configured to direct the incoming light to a first path and a second path;an RGB sensor configured to sense the RGB light of the incoming light that is directed to the first path; andan IR sensor configured to sense the reflected IR light of the incoming light that is directed to the second path; and a control unit configured to:
cause the light transmitting unit to transmit the IR light with the predetermined pattern;obtain information of the sensed RGB light and reflected IR light via the light receiving unit; andgenerate a 3D image using the obtained information.
