The usual cotton yarn used in the manufacture of flexible electric braid or cord, telephone flex and electric cables is replaced by threads prepared from animal fibrous materials by chemical, biological or thermal disintegration, if necessary supplemented by mechanical comminution, the resulting fibrous paste being extruded through nozzles and thereafter solidified, waterproofed, and, if desired, coloured; the animal fibrous materials may be treated with chemical swelling agents and mechanically comminuted in such a way as to retain the fibrous structure and the extruded threads may be solidified by drying and/or treatment with water-removing agents, tanned and, if desired, coloured. The chemical disintegration, the shaping of the fibrous mass and the solidification of the resulting threads are effected as described in Specification 429,039, and the fibrous paste is extruded as described in Specification 452,348.
