Provided is a paper separation mechanism, comprising: a pickup roller (11), a separation roller (13), a resist roller (14), a press roller assembly (12), a motor (31), a first transfer direction control element (6), and a second transfer direction control element (7). A first driving path is formed between the motor (31) and one of the pickup roller (11), the separation roller (13) or the resist roller (14), alternatively, a second driving path is formed between the motor (31) and the press roller assembly (12). The first transfer direction control element (6) is arranged in the first driving path, and the second transfer direction control element (7) is arranged in the second driving path. The paper separation mechanism has less motors, thereby reducing an apparatus cost. Also provided is a sheet-like medium processing apparatus using the paper separation mechanism.
