The aim of the invention is to provide a seam for an airbag and an airbag comprising such a seam which keeps stresses produced in the airbag material approximately at the seam end to a minimum when the airbag is inflated while simultaneously allowing the targeted reduction of the size of the chamber formed by the loop. For this purpose, a seam is provided comprising a neck section which is made of a forward seam and a rearward seam. The forward seam and the rearward seam run next to each other substantially in a straight line in the neck section. The seam also comprises a head section in which the forward seam and the rearward seam are connected together. The forward seam and the rearward seam each has a curvature between the neck section and the head section, and the curvature of the forward seam and the curvature of the rearward seam have substantially the same orientation such that a transition section with a curved progression is formed between the neck section and the head section.
