Provided are a method for dividing a display member that allows for easy and favorable dividing of a substrate by favorably and efficiently cutting a film and an adhesive without producing residues and scribing the substrate, and a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device including a step of dividing the substrate using the dividing method. A TFT substrate (2) and a CF substrate (4) of a display member (1) are mutually joined with a seal material sandwiched therebetween, and a liquid crystal is provided therebetween to form a liquid crystal layer (3). A polarization film (6) is applied to the surface at the opposite side of the liquid crystal layer (3) of the TFT substrate (2) using a curable adhesive (5). The CF substrate (4) is divided by, using an ultrasonic cutting roller (20) which vibrates ultrasonically, cutting the polarization film (6) and the curable adhesive (5) and scribing the CF substrate (4). |
