[Class 89 (i)] A screw or screw-bolt comprises a threaded end portion, an unthreaded non-tubular shank 1 adjacent the threaded end portion and of substantially the same outer diameter as the thread, and a plurality of bores 2 in the shank extending transversely of its axis to increase the elasticity of the shank, said bores having such dimensions and being so disposed that the solid area of any cross-section of the bored part does not exceed the cross-sectional area of the core of the thread. The bores may be so arranged that the projections of their longitudinal axes upon a plane normal to the axis of the screw or bolt are inclined, or they may be parallel.</p> |
