Connectivity management in a radio access network with assistance from a core network to reduce signaling load is disclosed. A method includes determining, by a wireless communication device, that the wireless communication device has moved from a first mobility area to a second mobility area of the radio access network. Then, instead of performing a location update in response to determining that the wireless communication device has moved from the first mobility area to the second mobility area, the wireless communication device refrains from performing a location update with the radio access network.
