A displacement device (100) comprising a stage (120) and a stator (110), wherein the stator is shaped to provide a working region and the stator comprises: a plurality of magnet blocks of the first kind, each magnet block of the first kind comprising a plurality of first magnets generally linearly elongated in the X-direction, and a plurality of magnet blocks of the second kind, each magnet block of the second kind comprising a plurality of second magnets generally linearly elongated in the Y-direction. The stage is movably arranged next to the stator in the Z-direction and the stage comprises: a coil block of the first kind, each coil block of the first kind comprising a plurality of electric conductors generally linearly elongated in the X-direction; and a coil block of the second kind, each coil block of the second kind comprising a plurality of electric conductors generally linearly elongated in the Y-direction. A dimension in the first direction of a coil block of the first kind is substantially equal to n(m1+ m2), where n = 1,2,3,... and a dimension in the first direction of a coil block of the second kind is substantially equal to n(m1+ m2), where n = 1,2,3,..., with m1and m2the dimension of two neighboring magnet blocks. The displacement device further comprising one or more power amplifiers arranged to supply current in the coil block of the first and second kind and to thereby effect relative movement between the stator and the stage in at least two directions. |
