PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens which offers a high zoom ratio, is well corrected for various aberrations and particularly well for chromatic aberration over an entire zoom range, and provides superior optical performance over the entire zoom range.SOLUTION: The zoom lens includes a first lens group which has positive refractive power and is located on the most object side, a plurality of lens groups which have negative refractive power and are located on the image side relative to the first lens group, an aperture stop, a lens group LA which has positive refractive power and is located on the image side relative to a lens group LN which is one of the plurality of lens groups having negative refractive power and is located on the most object side, and a lens group LB which has positive or negative refractive power and is located on the image side relative to the lens group LA and the aperture stop. When zooming from the wide angle end to the telephoto end, distance between the lens group LA and the lens group LB widens and distance between the aperture stop and the lens group LB widens. The lens group LA has one or more diffraction optical elements. Power &phgr;of the entire system at the wide angle end, power &phgr;of the entire system at the telephoto end, a chromatic aberration correction capability SUM(A) of the lens group LA, and a chromatic aberration correction capability SUM(B) of the lens group LB are each set appropriately. |
