A method of controlling the light output of a display in response to changes in ambient light comprising; causing synchronisation of a local time frame and refresh of a display; dividing a time frame T into first and second periods, measuring output from a light sensor during the first period t1for a first duration d1; and using the measured output to control the light output of a light source during the second period t2 for a second duration d2. The invention aims to provide a fast response to changing ambient light conditions by synchronising light sensing and display output into a single time frame, and as such avoids flicker. |
