A generally wedge shaped tent comprises rear (1, fig. 1), floor (2, fig. 1), ceiling 3 and side 4, panels connected by seams and at least one opening 6. The tent includes an attached elongate storage bag 12 the same length as the rear panel, into which the tent can be rolled or folded. The bag includes external fastenings for securing to the side or roof of a car or other vehicle (16, fig. 3), e.g. off-road or sports utility vehicles (SUVs), such that the tent is substantially supported by the vehicle. The fastenings may be ties (14, fig. 3) for attaching to a roof rack (15, fig. 3), side rails or handles of a vehicle. Alternatively the fastenings may be toggles or clips located over and retained by the windows of the vehicle. The tent may be a lightweight water resistant material such as cotton or cotton and nylon mix. The tent may include anchoring pegs to secure the floor panel to the ground. Preferably the tent does not use poles or a support frame. Also described is an awning of similar construction. |
