[Class 53] The upper surface of the electrode e of a cell which is depolarized by atmospheric oxygen is protected against contact with the electrolyte by a liquidtight chamber b which is open to the air through tubes r. The chamber and tubes may be made of glass, paraffined cardboard or of a pressed material. They may alternatively be made in one piece with the porous envelope of the electrode e in which case the chamber and tubes are subsequently coated to make them waterproof. In this construction the active material of the electrode is introduced through the open lower end of the envelope which is then sealed. |
