[Class 7 (vi)] [Also in Group XXVI] In reciprocating engines, a pair of valves disposed one above the other are connected to a single closing-means loaded by springs or fluid pressure and arranged on the valveactuating rods outside the cylinder and the valve axis. The Figure shows a valve 3 actuated by a cam and lever 4, and a second valve 5 arranged above the first and actuated by a cam, lever 6, push rod 7, and lever 8, the rod 7 being provided with a collar 11 acting on the lower end of a single closing spring 10, the upper end of which bears against a forked member 9 connected at its lower end to the lever 4. In a modification, the two valves are connected to the piston and cylinder respectively of a fluid-pressure device.
