The purpose of the present invention is to actuate an emergency stop device in a short amount of time in the vicinity of the lowest floor where the emergency stop device would need to be actuated in a short amount of time, and to suppress the occurrence of malfunctions of the emergency stop device when the car is far from the lowest floor. The present invention is provided with an emergency stop device (13) for performing an emergency stop of a vertically moving body (3). The emergency stop device (13) is provided with: a wedge-shaped body (15) with which, when an acceleration difference between the vertically moving body (3) and a governor rope (12) has occurred, an emergency stop of the vertically moving body (3) is performed by raising a damper (21) by at least a raising distance and pressing the damper against a guide rail (6); a spring (17) having a pressing force in a direction that hinders the raising of the damper (21); and an emergency stop duration adjustment unit for curtailing the time needed for an emergency stop by modifying the position of an emergency stop duration adjustment end when the vertically moving body (3) is in the vicinity of the lowest floor. |
