A method of operating a liquid treatment apparatus including at least one cross-flow filtration device (5;5';40,41), each cross-flow filtration device (5;5';40,41) having an inlet (4;4';42,43), an outlet (6;6';46,47) for retentate and an outlet for filtrate (7;7';44,45)includes operating one of the at least one cross-flow filtration devices (5;5';40,41) to obtain filtrate. The filtrate is used to produce product liquid for delivery through an outlet (23;23';58) of the apparatus. At least one of the at least one cross-flow filtration devices (5;5';40,41) is operated in a rinse mode, in which a larger proportion of liquid entering through the inlet (4;4';42,43) passes to the retentate outlet (6;6';46,47) than during a preceding filtrate production mode of operation of that cross-flow filtration device (5;5';40,41), and liquid originating from that retentate outlet (6;6';46,47) is used to produce the product liquid. |
