[Class 78 (i)] Helical s ioots in which the helix is attached to the inner wall of a cylinder without the provision of a central pillar, are built up of standardized parts each comprising a section of cylinder and helix, the section of the latter being readily detachable and removable from the corresponding section of the cylinder while the apparatus as a whole remains in situ. As shown, the cylinders are formed in superposed abutting sections, and each section carries one or more standard parts of the helix which can be detached and removed through a man-hole in the walls. Figs. 1 and 2 show a section of the cylinder carrying two parts 15<1>, 15<11> of the helix, secured by bolts 23, Fig. 2, to inwardly-projecting lugs 21 integral with the walls of the cylinder. The shoot floor is deformed to engage countersunk recesses surrounding the bolt holes in these lugs. By removing the bolts, any section of the helix can be removed through the man-hole 18 in its corresponding cylinder section. Some or all of the cylindrical sections may be split longitudinally, for example, one or two at the top in order to replace one half section by a hopper. The upper or other cylindrical sections may be fitted with perforated projecting lugs 27, Fig. 7, for securing the apparatus as a whole in a mine shaft or other location. Hanger members 28, furnished with screwed ends bolted to the timbering, engage the lugs in such manner as to permit vertical adjustment of the apparatus when necessary. |
