In an elastic fabric a first type 1 of filamentary yarn, such as polyester or polyamide, and a second type of elastic yarn 2 are interlooped to form a plurality of locking nodes. The second type of yarn forms a plurality of locking points with a third type of elastic yarn 3 through melting of those yarns during a heating process. The fabric may be formed by knitting together the three types of yarn, the knitting process forming the inter-looping of the first and second types of yarn, and the third type of yarn may effectively be a weft insertion yarn not forming any loops. Subsequent heating of the knitted fabric to 80-220 degrees centigrade, for 1-2 minutes, causes the second and third types of yarn to melt and adhere to each other and possibly to other yarns. The second and third types of elastic yarn may be made from the same or different materials and each may be spandex and may be of different fibre densities. The first yarn may adopt a six row pillar stitch with open and closed loops. The second yarn type may adopt a single variable pillar stitch with open loops. The fabric exhibits anti-fatigue characteristics against stretching and washing actions and may be used for underwear or sports-wear. |
