The present disclosure discloses a method and a device for releasing an SSID in a WLAN, which serves to increase a probability that a terminal device displays the SSID properly. The method includes: encoding (S101, S301) a set SSID according to a character encoding form for a variety of preset system platforms, to generate an SSID code suitable for the variety of system platforms; and broadcasting (S102, S203, S302) the generated SSID code suitable for the variety of system platforms in the WLAN. The present disclosure may increase a probability that a terminal device receives an SSID code which may be properly displayed in local, so as to increase a probability that a terminal device displays the SSID properly. |
