Architectures and methods for creating and representing time-dependent imagery

Aspects of the technology pertain to geographical image processing of time-dependent imagery. Various assets acquired at different times are stored and processing according to acquisition date in order to generate one or more image tiles for a geographical region of interest. The different image tiles are sorted based on asset acquisition date. Multiple image tiles for the same region of interest may be available. In response to a user request for imagery as of a certain date, one or more image tiles associated with assets from prior to that date are used to generate a time-based geographical image for the user.

1. A processing system comprising:
memory configured to store imagery information corresponding to time-based image tiles, each time-based image tile representing a portion of one or more image assets for a respective geographic location at a particular resolution and time of acquisition; an interface configured to receive user input identifying a geographic area of interest and one or more times of interest for the geographic area of interest; and one or more processing devices operatively coupled to the memory and the interface, the one or more processing devices configured to:
receive, via the interface, user input selecting a time-based imagery display, the time-based imagery display indicating the geographic area of interest;select, in accordance with the received one or more times of interest, different points in time for which the geographic area of interest has one or more of the time-based image tiles available; andgenerate one or more maps for presentation on a display of a user device, wherein different ones of the one or more maps show the geographic area of interest at the selected different points in time.
