499,021. Filters or strainers. HAWLEY, C. G. April 12, 1937, No. 30664/38. Divided out of 498,814. [Class 46] Sewage or other polluted liquid delivered to a well 14 overflows therefrom through a recess 14a in which is fitted a strainer or filter 15 formed of closely spaced discs 15a on a rotating shaft 15c. The liquid passing through the strainer is discharged through a passage 21, while solid matter forming a mat on the strainer is removed by a bar scraper 18 and discharged by a screw conveyer 16. The discs 15a with spacing rings 15e, Fig. 7, are held in place by end discs 15f on a tubular member 15b fixed on the shaft 15c. Joint is made between the strainer and the walls 14c of the recess by check plates 14d which engage grooves in the discs 15f. The strainer is rotated by a motor 32 through reducing gear 33, a shaft 30 with universal joint 34, a pulley 28 engaging the face of a disc 27 and further reducing gear 29. The speed is governed by a float 26 in the well 14, the float being connected to a rocking shaft 40 with an arm 39 which moves a swivel block at the end of the shaft 30 along a guide 37. Movement of the float thus determines the distance of the pulley 28 from the centre of the disc 27. The conveyer 16 is driven by a chain 41 from the shaft of the strainer. |
