DATA PROVISIONING

Provisioning of Internet Protocol (IP) configuration data or other configuration related data for devices or services connected to a passive optical network (PON) is contemplated. The provisioning may be facilitated with an optical line terminal (OLT) providing the desired configuration data over the PON to an optical network unit (ONU) connected to the device or service desired for provisioning, such as to enable the ONU to provision the device or service without exchanging Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) messaging with a DHCP server.

1. A system for provisioning Internet Protocol (IP) configuration data to a device via an Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON), the device requiring the IP configuration data prior to establish IP communications, the system comprising:
an optical line termination (OLT) configured to communicate the IP configuration data over the EPON; and an optical network unit (ONU) configured to extract the IP configuration data communicated over the EPON for use with the device, the device thereafter relying on the IP configuration data to establish the IP communications.
