A rnethod of manufacturing a dual hardness steel article, comprising: providing a 5 first air hardenable steel alloy part comprising a first mating surface and having first part hardness; providing a second air hardenable steel alloy part comprising a second mating surface and having a second part hardness, wherein the first part hardness is greater than the second part hardness; disposing the first air hardenable steel alloy part and the second air hardenable steel alloy part so that 10 at least a portion of the first mating surface contacts at least a portion of the second mating surface; metallurgically securing the first air hardenable steel alloy part to the second air hardenable steel alloy to form a metallurgically secured assembly; hot rolling the netallurgically secured assembly t form a metallurgical bond between the first mating surIfce and the second ra ting surface; cooling the 15 hot rolled assembly. /0 18
