Rubber threads, formed, for example, by extrusion, are prevented from sticking together by treatment thereof, before drying, with an aqueous solution of aluminium sulphate or of an alum containing the same or an aqueous solution containing both these substances. The treatment is effected before, during or after treatment in a hardening bath. Ammonium and potassium alums may be used. In an example, a latex mixture is extruded into a bath containing aluminium and zinc sulphates, ethyl alcohol, ammonium and sodium chlorides, and water. In another example, a latex mixture is extruded into a bath containing ammonium and sodium chlorides, zinc sulphate, ethyl alcohol and water, and the coagulum is passed through an aqueous aluminium sulphate solution.
