A lift system comprises a cab and at least one carrying means, wherein the cab is at least partially carried by the carrying means and wherein the carrying means comprises a plurality of electrically conductive traction members that are arranged parallel to one another and are substantially enclosed by a jacket. The lift system further comprises a monitoring device, which connects the traction members or groups of traction members in varying configuration as electrical resistors to a measuring bridge such that electrical resistances of different traction members can be compared to one another on the basis of a bridge voltage.
